The Girl Guides and Scouts Waste Reducer Challenge is still on so if you haven't done it yet, there is still time.  For all the details please click on the link at the top of the page.  All levels of Girl Guides and Scouts can participate.

Waste Reduction Week (WRW) is a series of events held every October to raise public awareness about how waste impacts on the environment, society and the economy. Our motto for Waste Reduction Week is Too Good To Waste.

While Waste Reduction Week traditionally focuses on reducing our production of solid waste by following the 3 R's: reduce, reuse, and recycle, it is important to reduce our consumption of all our valuable resources, including water and energy.

Did you know the 3 Rs are in listed in order of priority? REDUCE is the first step. If you don't need it, don't buy it or accept it. Use your consumer power to make a statement. Purchase durable goods with little packaging. Perform regular maintenance on your 'stuff' to keep it working and out of the landfill. Resist the push to purchase. Don't take the plastic bag or little sample.

Clean Nova Scotia organized one of the first Waste Reduction Weeks fourteen years ago. Events associated with Waste Reduction Week now take place across Canada in every province and territory. Waste Reduction Week in Canada is organized by a national coalition of non-government, non-profit environment groups from each of the provincial and territorial jurisdictions.
