Sustainable Landscaping

Welcome to Clean Nova Scotia’s (CNS) Sustainable Landscaping website. Here you will find programs, information, and resources that will help you develop the sustainable maintenance practices that will promote a healthy turf and diverse habitat in your landscape. Find out What We Do or follow the Quick Links to get to the most used pages on this site.

Learn More

Learn the benefits of a Healthy Lawn and the practices required to Maintain and Monitor your landscape to promote a healthy turf and recognize where further action may be needed. Find ways to Prevent and Control weeds and insects using physical, biological, or chemical controls. Understand and encourage Habitat and Biodiversity by learning about climate, ecosystems, plants, and insects found in Nova Scotia and how to renovate your landscape to support a diverse habitat suited to your needs and location. More Information is available for those looking for suppliers, service providers, web, and print resources or more information about CNS’s Sustainable Landscapes initiative.

FREE GreenYards Sustainable Lawn Assessment

As we have since 2007, Clean Nova Scotia will be carrying out a limited number of FREE on-site assessments this summer to help educate homeowners on sustainable lawn care principles! The program consists of a visit to your home, an analysis of current yard maintenance practices, and practical demonstrations of the tools and practices needed to create a healthy, pest-free lawn. Homeowners are provided with a detailed information package with recommendations on water usage, aeration, and natural pest control tailored to their property and its unique site conditions.
