Retire Your Ride is a national program that is designed to effectively "retire" 1995 and older model cars off the roads. The vehicles that are retired will be recycled in an environmentally responsible manner and will help to improve Nova Scotia's air quality and encourage sustainable transportation in the province. The Clean Air Foundation is the national delivery partner for this program, while Clean Nova Scotia is the provincial delivery agent.
Why Retire Your Ride:
-
1995 and older model cars are responsible for 19 times more smog forming emissions than a 2004 or newer model car (on average). This is due to new fuel efficiency and emission guidelines that were introduced in 2004.
-
In Nova Scotia there are over 110,000 car on the road that are 1995 and older, this represent about 20% of the overall vehicle fleet in the province.
-
Reducing these cars on the road will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve overall air quality.
-
If you own one of these vehicles, you could be eligible for an incentive towards a more sustainable transportation method.

Who is Eligible:
-
Must have a 1995 or older model vehicle that is in running condition.
-
The vehicle must be registered in Canada and insured with the current owner for the last 6 months.
How it Works:
-
People with 1995 or older model vehicles, who are eligible, can voluntarily retire their vehicle through this program. To enrol in the program, visit www.retireyourride.ca and click "Retire Now". At this point, the participants will need to provide their name, address, email or phone number and the VIN number of their vehicle.
-
Once the participant's application has been approved, an accredited recycler will be contacted and the recycling process will begin.
-
When the recycler has confirmed that the car has been picked up, the participant will be sent the reward of their choice.
The Opportunity:
1. Reduce emissions and improve Nova Scotia's air quality.
2. Improve end-of-life vehicle management.
3. Get rewarded for retiring your old car.

Recycling Your Ride:-
By weight, over 75% of a vehicle is recyclable.
-
The donated car will be recycled in a responsible manner.
-
Recycling will be carried out according to environmental guideline.
-
This includes all of the hazardous fluids being removed before scrappage.
