Time to Get Tox-Free!

Every day, we use a variety of household cleaning and health and beauty products in and around our homes without thinking twice. Have you ever wondered about the ingredients contained within those products, and how those ingredients affect your health and the health of the environment? Do you wonder how to properly dispose of these products? The answers to those questions may surprise you.

By educating Nova Scotians about the health and environmental hazards of toxic household products and the environmental damage caused by improperly disposing of them, Tox-Free aims to:

  • encourage people to switch to more environmentally-friendly and healthy home products;
  • engage them in proper Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal methods.

The ultimate goal is to have fewer toxic chemicals released into the air, absorbed into our bodies and reaching the sewage treatment plants. Together, we can work towards a cleaner, safer, and more environmentally friendly future.

The Tox-Free program is indebted to the Environmental Health Association of Nova Scotia for their assistance and information. Visit their fantastic online resource, www.lesstoxicguide.ca, for more information. We are also grateful to Bebbington Industries, makers of the DownEast brand, for the sample natural products they have provided.
