Powered Right Program

The Powered Right Program is a partnership between Nova Scotia Power and Clean Nova Scotia. This year, the program is again offering small business owners and organizations across Nova Scotia a free energy efficient lighting retrofit.

Trained installers from Clean Nova Scotia will replace your incandescent lighting with ENERGY STAR (R) qualified Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs), up to five specialty CFLs and LED exit lights.  These lighting retrofits will save you money every month by lowering your lighting bill and lasting much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

Pull the Plug to Save Program

Do you have a second fridge in your home? A chest freezer or dehumidifier? It could be costing you up to $150/year on your hydro bill!

Retire those old appliances with The Pull the Plug program – a hassle free way to save money, energy and the environment.

When you participate in the program, a professional contractor will remove your fridge, freezer or dehumidifier from your home and take it away for you for proper decommissioning free of charge – normally a $60 value! Not only that, you will also receive a $35 cash incentive for each fridge and freezer you retire, and $10 for each retired dehumidifier.

The Pull the Plug pilot program runs in the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality between June 21st  and August 21st, 2010.

Do you qualify?

  •   I live within the Regional Municipality of Halifax or Cape Breton

  • My fridge is not my household's primary fridge

  • My fridge is a regular-sized fridge between 10 and 25 cubic feet

  • My fridge, freezer or dehumidifier is plugged in and in working condition

  • Someone 18 years or older will be home at the time of pick-up

  •  My fridge can easily be removed from my home without causing damage

Why should I participate in the program?

Refrigerators, freezers and dehumidifiers have become more efficient over the years, so much so that many makes and models have earned ENERGY STAR® certification. Refrigerators fifteen years or older are less efficient and use about twice the amount of electricity of today's models. Replacing an older fridge, freezer or dehumidifier can save you up to $150 per year on your hydro bill. By participating in the Pull the Plug program, you will be helping the environment by reducing greenhouse gases and the impact of electricity generation. You can also rest easy with the knowledge that your fridge, freezer or dehumidifier has been decommissioned and recycled in an environmentally responsible way.
