EnerGuide for Houses Program
Remember , to be eligible for any rebates, you must book an EnerGuide evaluation before you conduct any upgrades to your home (the rebates are not retroactive). The purpose of the evaluation is to determine the areas of inefficiencies relating to heating in your home. We then provide you with a report that outlines potential options for increasing the efficiency of your home. This allows you to prioritize your upgrades based on the potential energy savings. For example, by modeling your home in the computer we can demonstrate that (for most homes) it’s much better to increase insulation levels than it is to replace windows.
The amount of the rebate only depends on what you do to upgrade your home – it is based a prescribed amount for specific upgrades. Please be aware that it does not depend on how much you spend, and that some of the rebates are very specific (eg. Windows must be ENERGY STAR rated). The maximum provincial rebate is $1500.
The cost for both home evaluations on a single dwelling is $150 if a home is under 3,500 square feet (of heated area – including basements and crawlspaces). If your home is over 3,500 square feet there will be an additional surcharge of $5 per 100sq.ft. Rebates are calculated and based on the rebate amounts and eligibility requirements that are in effect at the time of the post-retrofit evaluation. For multi-unit residential buildings(MURBS), the fee is dependant on the number of assessed units. Feel free to contact the office to discuss eligilibility criteria and fee for the multi unit buildings.
Remember, you must complete your retrofits and receive your post-retrofit evaluation within 18 months from the date you receive your pre-retrofit evaluation report or by March 31,2011,whichever comes first .It is important to note however, that payment of rebates is subject to the availability of funds.
Finally, for low to modest income Nova Scotians, the Province will refund your cost of the visit. This applies to single homeowners with a net income of less than $25,000 or a family with a net income of less than $40,000. Also, you will receive an additional $400 on top of any regular rebate you qualify for.
